Obama, Palin, and Death Panel
The country has been inundated with the need for Healthcare reform and everything that those changes entail. Awhile back, the issue of death panel was raised but no one in the media accurately addressed it. In fact, the messenger, Sarah Palin was ridiculed and the media continued to conceal the relationship between Pres. Obama’s bill and the death panel provision.
Supporters of the president argue that the president’s bill doesn’t have a death panel—a very disingenuous assertion. The truth is that the president does not have a bill. The provision Palin referred to is not the president’s bill, but one created by a committee. It was a specific provision proposed in a committee bill that the president reserves the right to incorporate into his final bill or exclude.
To ask whether the president’s bill will have a death panel as a way of contradicting Palin’s statements is disingenuous and deceitful. It is also disingenuous for the president to make a national address to the House and Senate; saying, ‘the bill that I propose tonight’ have such and such provisions, knowing very well that he has no bill.
The mainstream media along with the president is contrasting an actual bill with death panel provisions– though it is not called a death panel – against a bill that does not exist. Palin commented on an actual bill. It was not President Obama’s bill because he does not have one as we have established.
Palin was right about what she said. Subsequent to her Facebook post, the committee removed that provision. Not only that, Bill Mahar, a prominent liberal, expressed his displeasure toward Obama by questioning who is he listening to. Bill Maher’s contention was that the president should be listening to the liberals who voted for him rather than people like Palin.
We are dealing with a situation where the people in the know are blatantly trying to deceive the public. When they question whether the president’s bill has the death panel, they are deliberately acting under the assumption that we are stupid and that we believe the president has a bill. While the president, on the other hand, speaks of his bill as if he has an actual bill.
President Obama is selling himself and his words to the American people and they rather us focus on him and what he says and pay no attention to the men and women behind the curtains called Congress. The mainstream media is in on this and they want us to simply focus on what the president is offering in speeches and pay no attention to what is developing in Congress.
The contrast to what is taking place here is Bill Clinton. Hillary had an actual bill where people could read and critique. With President Obama, many separate committees are creating bills and in the end Obama decide.
To understand the death panel assertion by Palin, we would have to ask, did a committee bill included the provision? Call it what you may, it do. The next question is, would the president accept a bill with the death panel, no. That is clarity. A bill did include the infamous death panel provision, but according to the president, he will not sign one with that provision.
To ensure that the politicians do not, we hope that Pres. Obama keeps his promise and allow the American people the time to read the bill before it is voted on. In my opinion, there was absolutely no reason to ridicule Palin as not knowing what she is talking about when we all know she was right.
